Making use of our rehabilitation facilities, we also have a select number of places for off track thoroughbred retraining. The youngsters will be assessed for soundness and temperament and will then begin an appropriate program with us to enable them to make the transition into another discipline.
Thoroughbreds are extremely versatile and there are many success stories to be found throughout the world where they have excelled in Eventing, Dressage, Showing, Polo (up to 15.2hh) and Team Chasing to name but a few. Some are even quiet enough to find uses in therapy programs with prisoners and children.
Working with a network of Thoroughbred specialists across Ireland and the UK, we work hard to give these ex-racers the very best chance of a life after racing.
Fees vary on the length of training program required for your horse, but usually we can assess a horse within a fortnight and advise accordingly from there where it should be aimed.
Resale or Long Term Loan:
The ability of your horse to adapt to a new life will determine its future value. Potential eventers and competition horses are often sought after so a sale may be possible quite quickly either during/after their schooling. Otherwise your horse may be loaned out via an official BHS Loan Scheme which ensures the horse lifetime protection. The loaner's premises are assessed, a short course in TB management given and an annual progress report is required for the term of the loan.
